Lacey Leonard is an artist, curator, and writer, living and working in Roanoke, Virginia. Her work combines multiple forms—including performance, film, poetry, drawing, photography, and analog collage—to investigate what she calls "the science of spirit." She builds a personal visual language that captures the subtle, often unspoken experiences of interaction, drawing from writings, imagined reconstructions, and botanical-inspired forms. Her art often represents “nature by nature,” blending unidentifiable natural elements in an exploration of connection and perception.

Lacey Leonard’s curatorial practice centers on connectedness and inclusion, creating space for diverse voices and emerging artists. In exhibitions like On Jupiter, curated from The Beth Rudin DeWoody Collection, she explores themes of intersectionality, identity, and spirituality. Inspired by Sun Ra’s cosmic philosophy and Vedic notions of the self, the show reimagines monuments as evolving symbols of collective hope, resilience, and love.

Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Lacey received her BFA in Sculpture and Extended Media from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015. In 2016, she thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail; 2189.1 miles from Georgia to Maine. Lacey Leonard is currently the Assistant Gallery Director at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia.
